At Deeply Rooted Pastures We Are On a Journey?

A little of over 10 years ago our family started a journey to farm. Not just to farm, but to farm with the systems of nature and not against them. A journey to help land heal and to bring dignity to livestock and those producing it. Our journey as been one of following God into the unknown trusting His ways are better than our own.

For the better part of seven years Andrew worked as a volunteer, intern, apprentice, laborer, and manager learning as much as he could. Then in 2019 God opened some doors for us to lease some pasture and buy some cows of our own. We spent three years in that place learning even more. One of the biggest things we learned in that time was not about cows, or grass or business though. It was about our calling. Since we started down the farming path we always knew we wanted our farm to be a place where people could meet Jesus, but God provided us with a couple more glimpses of the story He is trying to write into our lives. Specifically, He showed us that our farm is to be a place for 18 to 24 year olds with backgrounds of crisis or trauma to find hope and healing.

As we shared our clarified vision with our landlord, they applauded our hearts’ and willingness to follow God. Indeed, they even affirmed this calling, but ultimately did not feel like they wanted their land to be the long-term home of such a ministry. In consultation and prayer with a number of trusted advisors we made a very difficult decision to not renew that lease when it ended and find ourselves in familiar yet still daunting place of walking with God as He leads.

We are searching for a new land base to call home, practice regenerative agriculture, and provide opportunities for young adults to meet Jesus. In meantime through, Becca is working as a contract travel nurse. She is helping hospitals that are short staffed by coming in for 8 to 13 weeks at a time. We choose contracts that place us close to family and friends getting reacquainted and with the extra pay that contract nurses a next egg is being built for whenever door God opens next.
